Mother and Baby Resources
Texas Mother-Friendly Workplace
The Mother-Friendly Workplace program is designed to create a supportive atmosphere for nursing mothers on campus. Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ's campuses in Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland and Odessa have been designated Texas Mother-Friendly Worksites. These campuses have met the standards set by the state to provide a private space, flexible break scheduling and support for mothers who choose to express milk for their babies. Break Time for Nursing Mothers OP70.42
The InfantRisk Center (IRC) is a world-wide call center presently housed in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, in Amarillo.
The InfantRisk Center is used by physicians, nurses, lactation consultants, and mothers in every part of the world. Virtually all calls are about multiple drugs, averaging 3-4 individual drugs. The InfantRisk Center helps moms, lactation consultants and doctors evaluate potential risks to the infant from exposure to multiple drugs, and keep the mom breastfeeding.
Nursing Mother Rooms
Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ acknowledges that a woman's choice to breastfeed benefits the family, the employer and society. Multiple studies have indicated that breastfed babies and their mothers are healthier and may have fewer health problems later in life. Nursing mother rooms are available on several Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ campuses for students, faculty and staff to utilize as needed. These rooms provide a safe, quiet and private space to express milk at the workplace by using hospital grade pumps permanently located in each room. Rooms can be found in the following locations:
- Abilene Campus: ABSON 2701
- Amarillo Campus: SOM/SHP 4705 (Contact Devona.Smith@ttuhsc.edu or Amador.Villasenor@ttuhsc.edu for a key)
- Lubbock Campus: 3A167 (Contact Kelly.McGinnis@ttuhsc.edu or Teena.Buie@ttuhsc.edu for assistance)
- Permian Basin: 1C34C (HR Suite 1C19)
I was so happy and relieved to see there was a refrigerator in the room, not to mention several different pumps. Knowing I could keep my milk stored safely and making sure I had all the equipment was a huge relief. – Amy P., APRN Student (LBK)
