Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ) is proud to be recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) as federally designated by the U.S. Department of Education. The vision of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is to transform health care through innovation and collaboration. By serving our communities and celebrating rich cultures, we move into the future with unwavering commitment to create a better tomorrow.
What is HSI?
The Hispanic-Serving Institution designation is granted to eligible institutions of higher education with an enrollment of undergraduate full-time Hispanic students greater than 25%, in addition to other criteria set by the Department of Education that promotes accessibility and affordability to traditionally underrepresented communities.
This status positions Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ among 569 colleges and universities across the nation that have been designated as an HSI, and one of just three comprehensive health sciences centers in Texas to also be recognized as an HSI.
Why is HSI important?
Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ recognizes the importance of the sense of community among all populations across the institution. Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ recognizes the need to provide resources, programs, and opportunities to enhance the educational experience and in the deliver of outstanding patient care. This is done by educating the best practitioners who are equipped to navigate the ever-changing landscape of health care and serving patients from all experiences.
As an HSI, Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ has opportunities to explore initiatives that promote innovation in academic programs and support services for learners and organize research on health care disparities facing the communities served by the institution.
