HIPAA Privacy and Security

The purpose of this site is to promote understanding of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center's responsibilities regarding the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191, and its Administrative Simplification provisions, 45 C.F.R. 160, et seq., 45 C.F.R. 162, et seq., and 45 C.F.R. 164, et seq., collectively referred to hereafter as HIPAA, have established national standards for electronic health care transactions as well as the security and privacy of health data.
