Streamlining Processes, Digitally Enhancing our University
Our IT Programming, Applications & Web Services (PAWS) department is like the behind-the-scenes team making sure everything runs smoothly on campus. We build and maintain the digital tools that students, faculty, and staff use every day. From creating online systems to maintaining the university content management interface, our team works hard to provide the technology that supports the entire campus community. Think of us as the tech experts keeping the university connected and efficient.
Programming, Applications, and Web Services is organized into three core project programs:
- Application Administration and Customer Support oversees cloud and on-premise services, including Adobe Sign, Digital Signage, Qualtrics, Smartsheet, and Learning Management System tools.
- Web Application Development focuses on web application development, database management, and rigorous testing.
- Data Warehousing, Process Automation, Integration, and Infrastructure Services handles web and database server administration, data warehousing, process automation, integration, and single sign-on services.
Our responsibilities encompass over 70 web and database servers, including the infrastructure for Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ websites and RedCap; approximately 150 databases; over 200 in-house applications; and numerous cloud-based services.
Software Categories
- Lyris List manager: email marketing platform, used to manage email lists, create email campaigns, and track email performance.
- Blackboard Connect/STATAlert!: school communication tool, used by institutions to send out mass notifications (e.g., closures, emergencies) to students, faculty, and staff. *Being replaced.
- Trumba: online event calendar, that allows organizations to publish and manage event schedules, making it easy for attendees to find and register for events.
- ZOOM: video conferencing platform, that enables real-time, face-to-face communication with multiple participants, often used for meetings, webinars, and virtual classrooms.
- Sharepoint: collaborative platform, offers document sharing, storage, and version control. It also supports workflows and team-based activities.
- Adobe Acrobat Sign: electronic signature platform: Allows users to send, sign, and track documents digitally.
- Digital Signature: electronic verification, mathematical scheme used to verify the authenticity of digital messages or documents.
- Duo: security measure, requires two forms of identification (e.g., password and code from a mobile app) to access systems or accounts.
- BOX: cloud-based service secure online platform that helps businesses manage, share, and collaborate on files.
- Modern Campus: web content management maintenance and support, involves managing and maintaining a website's content using the Modern Campus platform, ensuring it functions correctly and is updated regularly.
- SQL Infrastructure Administration and Support: focuses on managing and supporting the database infrastructure, including servers, storage, and network components, that run SQL databases.
- SQL Maintenance and Support: involves the day-to-day operations of SQL databases, such as backups, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and ensuring data integrity.
- Web Application Development & Maintenance: the creation, modification, and upkeep of web applications, including coding, testing, and deployment.
- Web Graphics: designing and creating visual elements for websites, such as images, logos, and user interfaces.
- Web Infrastructure Administration and Support: focuses on managing and supporting the hardware and software components that make up a website's infrastructure, including servers, networks, and security.
- ACME Online Training: online learning platform, provides various training courses and materials accessible through the internet.
- Kaltura: video management system, used to record, manage, and distribute videos for classroom and other purposes.
- SAKAI/eLearning Resources: online learning platform, a system used for delivering educational content online, but is in the process of being replaced. *Being replaced.
- Learning Management System Maintenance and Support: system upkeep, responsible for maintaining and supporting the platform used for delivering online courses.
- Learning Management System Banner Integration: system connection, ensures the learning management system works seamlessly with the Banner student information system.
- Respondus: exam and assessment software, used to create and administer online exams, quizzes, and surveys.
- SAS Reporting for Grading &Surveys: data analysis tool: Employs statistical software to generate reports for grading and surveys.
- Scantron Grading & Surveys: paper-based assessment of grading multiple-choice exams and processing surveys using optical mark recognition.
- Web Accessibility Resources: support for users with disabilities, provides tools and information to make websites accessible to people with disabilities.
- 25LIVE: event scheduling tool, manage and schedule campus events, rooms, and resources.
- FileVault: file storage and sharing platform, allows users to store and share large files securely.
- Qualtrics: online survey creation and analysis platform, used to create, distribute, and analyze surveys to gather feedback.
- Poppulo: digital content management system, create and manage digital signage content displayed on screens throughout the campus.
