Residency Application Process
The Department of Family Medicine only accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service ( ERAS). Information about the service may be obtained from your Dean's Office or from the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). International medical graduates may obtain information about ERAS through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). All applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas. Licensure requirements may be found by visiting the . International medical graduates must have a current certification through ECFMG.
Applicants should submit their ERAS application, medical school transcripts, Full
USMLE/COMPLEX Transcripts, Dean's letter, three letters of recommendation, and a
personal statement. Curriculum vitae and letters of recommendation should fully account
for the time since medical school graduation.
Listed below are the prerequisites for our Family Medicine Program:

All Candidates must:
• Be eligible for a Physician-in-training permit to practice medicine (check for requirements). New Mexico rural residents must be eligible for licensure through
the
• Be a graduate from an LCME accredited medical school and hold a valid ECFMG certificate.
• Completed USMLE/COMPLEX steps 1 and 2 .
• USMLE/Complex exams must have a passing score within 3 attempts each step and all
exams (including step 3) must be completed within 7 years.
• Graduation date within 5 years is preferred, but not limited to.
• We do not offer observerships.
Application deadline for each academic year is December 31 of current year.
Only one application (to any of the program's 8 sites) is needed in ERAS. You do not need to apply to all sites for your application to be reviewed by the residency recruitment committee.
The Department of Family Medicine has established a resident recruitment committee, which consists of the Family Medicine Residency Program Director, Residency Coordinators , and Associate Program Directors to assist with the initial screening of resident applicants for interview through the NRMP.
During the interview day, candidates will be given a tour of the Family Medicine Clinic, Medical Center Hospital and Midland Memorial Hospital. Interviews will be scheduled with residents, faculty and administrators. A standardized evaluation is submitted to the resident recruitment committee by each faculty and resident member you meet with during your interview day. We will interview up to 180 candidates for 23 positions.
All candidates will complete a Core program interview for both Midland and Odessa Core programs. Rural interviews will be conducted after interviews for the core programs. Rural interviews will be conducted at each rural site with their local faculty and residents.
