Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)

The Association of  offers several  annually. These professional development opportunities cater to the learning needs of academic medicine professionals in all stages of their careers. Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program

Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) is a core program of the , Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Institute continues the legacy of advancing women in medicine that began in 1850 with the founding of the Female Medical College of Pennsylvania, the nation's first women's medical school and a predecessor of today's Drexel University College of Medicine. The ELAM program has been specially developed for senior women faculty at the associate or full professor level who demonstrate the greatest potential for assuming executive leadership positions at academic health centers within the next five years. Acceptance into ELAM is determined through an annual competitive selection process, in which approximately 54 candidates are chosen each year.

ELAM is the only in-depth national leadership program preparing women faculty for the highest administrative ranks at academic health centers.  Details and downloadable application materials can be found on the web site.

Online Professional Development Modules

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has supported the creation of four online professional development modules for educators across Texas that are now available 24/7 for faculty to access on demand.  These online professional development modules are now available free of charge at : 

The modules consist of instruction examples, teaching tips, recommended readings, current pedagogical scholarship, active learning teaching strategies, and classroom activities and are designed to improve higher education instruction, particularly for new faculty and /or faculty teaching introductory level courses.
