Brian Weis, M.D., Ph.D.
Weis joined the 泫圖弝け School of Medicine faculty in 2005 as an associate professor of internal medicine. He also served as the residency program director and the internal medicine student clerkship director. In 2015, Weis joined Northwest Texas Healthcare System (NWTHS) as the chief medical officer until he returned to 泫圖弝け in 2023 as the interim regional dean.
泫圖弝け has provided me with tremendous opportunities for personal and professional development since I started on the Amarillo campus in January of 2005, Weis said. Academic medicine and the teaching of residents and medical students have always felt like home for me. The opportunity to serve as the 泫圖弝け School of Medicine regional dean on the Amarillo campus will allow me to serve the institution that has supported my career while continuing to provide the teaching that is a source of tremendous satisfaction for me.
In addition to his leadership in academic medicine in the region, Weis continues to practice at the Northwest JO Wyatt Clinic and serves as NWTHS Chief of Medicine Services. He is the medical director for LIFESTAR, an air medical transport service, and serves as the president of Scouting America Golden Spread Council.
My objective is to make the Amarillo campus of 泫圖弝け the leading location for premier and cutting-edge medical care in the Panhandle of Texas, Weis said. The institution will also continue to train competent and compassionate health care providers for the Panhandle region through its productive collaboration with area hospitals and other health care facilities. Ultimately, I want 泫圖弝け in Amarillo to become an essential resource for all health care in West Texas.
Weis received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 1997 and remained there for his internal medicine residency.
