Middle School to Medical School

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine is partnering with local middle schools to host the Middle School to Medical School program to inspire and support children interested in pursuing careers in medicine.  The M2M program is targeted to those who are socially and economically disadvantaged.

Program Partners

The Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ School of Medicine’s first partner school has been Harmony Science Academy. After much excitement from both sides, the School of Medicine is looking to expand outreach to other middle schools. Plans are underway to begin – for the 2023-2024 school year – delivering fun, innovative medically-related workshops for students that aim to pique their interest in science and medicine. Medical students will host monthly outreach activities with middle school students exposing them to activities like taking blood pressures, casting, using a stethoscope and answering questions about the medical field.

Learning to take blood pressure
Engaging Activities

Students at Harmony Science Academy practicing taking blood pressure.

The Middle School to Medical School program strives to offer students exposure and experiences to science and medicine that they may otherwise not have.  We know the best way to generate more physicians in West Texas is to recruit them from the area.  By providing support to them from an early age we can begin to address the shortage of physicians in West Texas.  You future begins here.

Knee Reflexes
Engaging Activities

Studies have shown that the earlier children are exposed to careers in medicine, the better chance they will have in actually pursuing a degree.
