NLN Center of Excellence in Nursing Education 2014-2018Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing is dedicated to training knowledgeable, compassionate nurses and nurse practitioners to meet the critical nursing shortage in West Texas and across the nation.

Since the first class in 1981, the school has grown from offering traditional programs to masters and post master’s programs in diverse areas of nursing specialization and Doctor of Nursing Practice.

The traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing program has more than 1,500 students across campuses in Lubbock, Amarillo, Odessa and Abilene. Our multiple campuses give each nursing student a high-quality education with experienced faculty.

The school is dedicated to creating new, innovative routes for students to complete their education. With accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing tracks, students can apply the knowledge they’ve already gained to completing their BSN in less time. Students may choose from the R.N. to BSN program, the Second-Degree BSN program or the Veteran to BSN Program, instituted to give veterans credit for their service in the armed forces.

Master of Science in Nursing programs offered include Nursing Administration, Education, Nursing Informatics, Nurse Midwifery, Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Post-Graduate certificates include Education, Nursing Informatics, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwifery, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

The DNP program equips nurses for leadership roles in nursing practice, business, administration, clinical research and academia. The BSN to DNP program prepares nurses to be nursing leaders while preparing them to be either a Family Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, reducing the time it takes for students to become doctoral-prepared professionals.

Along with the programs, the School of Nursing offers training opportunities in global health and clinical experience with nurse-managed clinics such as the Larry Combest Community Health and Wellness Center in Lubbock and the Abilene Community Health Clinic. With these opportunities, nurses get knowledge helping the most vulnerable populations.
