The CAlcium and VAsopressin following Injury Early Resuscitation (CAVALIER) trial
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is conducting a research study that will look at whether calcium, vasopressin, or both early in the course of treatment would help severely injured patients that lose a lot of blood survive their injuries.
The CAlcium and VAsopressin following Injury Early Resuscitation (CAVALIER) trial will include approximately 1,050 people aged 18 to 90. Patients who have traumatic injuries with loss of blood may be enrolled by participating emergency medical personnel during their transportation to the hospital or after arrival to University Medical Center Hospital.
CAVALIER is an Exception from Informed Consent (EFIC) trial, meaning that, the trial requires performing a potentially life-saving intervention in people who are too injured to give permission. This study will look at treatment for patients who have a traumatic injury and have lost a lot of blood. These patients are too injured to give permission before receiving the study drug. Permission for continued participation will be obtained from patients once they are able, or from their family members, as soon as possible.

Pediatric Healthy Volunteers Needed for a Research Study
- Pediatric healthy volunteers are needed to participate in a study comparing dental health in pediatric patients with and without sickle cell disease.
- This study requires participants to attend a single dental visit. Participants will receive compensation of $25.
- Participants must be 5-18 years old and have no chronic illnesses to be eligible.

Drs. Tijani and Gomez, L22-274, Magnetic Characteristics of Blood Cells in Anemia:L22-274 Flyer
Healthy Volunteers are needed to participate in a study examining the magnetic characteristics and iron quantification in blood cells obtained from healthy and anemic individuals.
- Healthy Participants (Self-Reported) will be asked to donate 50mL (3 tablespoons) of blood
- Minimum weight of 110 lbs and must not be pregnant

Dr. Shen's L18-194, Actions of tocotrienols on obesity:
This study lasts about 24 weeks and has 7-9 study visits, including blood draws, urine and stool samples, DXA scans, height and weight measurements, surveys, food diary, and optional abdominal fat biopsies.
- Subjects are also randomized to take either a Tocotrienol supplement or an Olive Oil
supplement for the duration of the study.
- They are not told which one they are randomized to until after their participation has been completed.
- Subjects are paid $25 for Visits 5, 6, and 9.
- Subjects who agree to have the optional fat biopsies are paid an additional $25 for each of the 2 biopsies, Visits 4 and 8.
Eligibility
- Postmenopausal Women (PMW) age 18 or older
- PM state can be natural or surgical, with at least 12 months without a menstrual cycle.
- BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2
- We have a pre-screening survey that includes additional eligibility questions,and
includes info such as:
- Sedentary lifestyle
- No serious chronic diseases (such as unstable cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension, or active cancer)
- Not taking anti-coagulants
- No changes to certain medications within 3-6 months, depending on the >medication.
- No significant change in weight (loss/gain) within 3 months
The Neuromuscular Response to Eccentric Muscle Damage in Younger and Older Females
We are looking for:
- Younger females (18-35 years old) with regular menstruation or are on oral, hormonal contraceptive pills
- Older females (65-80 years old) not be on any hormone replacement therapies
- Participants who do not have:
- A body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2
- A history of lower extremity surgery
- A history of myocardial infarction in the last year
- Any known neuromuscular or metabolic disease(s)
- Compensation of up to $30 for the completion of the study
